If you're familiar with our team you know we're big fans of squat university. Here's a post they recently made from a patient we referred. Dr. Horshig always does an amazing job and in our opinion is the best PT around. Posted @withrepost • @squat_university In August 2019, professional strongman @bbenzel suffered a hip injury while performing a relatively light 167 kg press in competition. MRI showed he had a full rupture of the adductor longus from its connection to the pelvis. Now this is only one of the many muscles on your inner thigh that help flex the thigh and bring it in towards the midline of your body (a motion called adduction). While an important muscle for stabilizing the pelvis when lifting, it doesn’t aid in hip extension like the slightly larger adductor magnus.📝

His medical team including @nhrmed opted not to do surgery (in part as evidence shows similar long term outcomes with surgical vs non surgical repair of adductor longus ruptures) and we started physical therapy starting with light isometrics to decrease pain and improve muscle function of the other surrounding groin muscles. We followed this initially with exercises focused on balance and regaining stability of the lower body with a single leg squat.✅

After 1 month he was able to progress to exercises that eccentrically load the adductor with a slider and an elevated sumo deadlift. We end our most recent session with suitcase carry marches to work on single leg stabilization and some deceleration lateral lunges working on absorbing and controlling his body.✅
